The Fiction
The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci
-
The figure to the right of Jesus ( left as
viewed ), is Mary Magdalene not the apostle John. She is dressed
in clothing whose colours are exactly the opposite of Jesus ie
blue top, red shawl. She and Jesus form a "V" symbol with the
space between their bodies ( "V" being the sacred feminie symbol
) and an "M" with their bodies ( indicating marriage or
Magdalene ).
-
Appears to be a disembodied hand, clutching a
knife close the figure of Peter. It is believe that this hand
actually belongs to Peter who is using it an threatening matter
towards the figure seated at Jesus' right ( said to be Mary
Magdalene ). It is believed to represent the struggle in the
early Church between Peter and Mary.
-
To the left of Jesus ( right as viewed ) Thomas
is confronting Jesus with the upraised finger gesture. It is
believe this is a gesture referring to John the Baptist. Such
gestures are also present in other Leonardo works.
-
The figure of Thaddeus ( second last from the
right ), the only member facing away from Jesus is actually a
self portrait of Leonardo. This supposedly indicates Leonardo's
rejection of Jesus.
-
Peter's hand cutting across the neck of Mary
Magdalene, once again representing Peter's antagnoism towards
Mary as being the "favoured disciple".
Joseph of Arimathea
An accounts says that Joseph brought the Grail ( cup
) to Britain and that at Wearyall Hill, Glastonbury ( located in
Somerset ), he planted his staff ( which flowered into a thorn tree
). The first mention of this is circa 1500 and is ambiguous because
the original legend does not mention the Grail. Monks claim that in
AD63 the apostle Philip had sent 12 disciples from France to
Britain, led by Joseph, who brought tow silver vessels, one
containing Christ's sweat and the other his blood. To preserve the
Grail ( cup ) Joseph buried it at the foot of Glastonbury Tor,
perhaps in the Chalice Well. Here Joseph is also credited with the
introduction of Christianity to Britain.
Other legends also claim that Joseph was Christ's uncle and the he
brought the young Jesus to Britain while he was trading tin ( which
is how he apparently made his fortune ).
Isis
It is claimed that Isis was worshipped until
Christian times and that her story bears a very strong resemblance
to the Virgin Mary ( especially concerning the immaculate conception
of a son ). Many 'black virgin' statues have also been linked with
Isis. She is deemed to represent the feminine side of God. She is
also present in the Tarot pack as the High Priestess, blue robed,
seated between the pillars Boaz and Jachin, scroll of Law in her
lap.
Sarah
In 42 AD a boat landed on the shores of the south of
France at
Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. The occupants of the boat were
believed to possibly be Mary Magdalene, Joseph of Arimathea, Mary
Salome ( wife of Zebedee ), Mary Jacob ( wife of Celofas ), Lazarus,
Martha ( Lazarus' sister ). The boat was also said to contain a dark
skinned girl known as Sarah. One legend holds that Sarah was the
child of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, while another says that
she was merely and Egyptian slave.
Saint Sarah as she has become known is not a Saint as recognized
by the Roman Catholic Church but she is venerated by gypsies on the
24th - 25th of May each year in
Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
