Currency

Like the rest of Australia our currency is based on a dollars and cents system. The official currency is the dollar which is divided up into 100 cents. The denominations include :

Coins - 5c, 10c ,20c ,50c, $1, $2

Notes - $5, $10, $20, $50, $100

Credit Cards

The major credit cards such as Visa , Mastercard and American Express are also widely accepted in shops and automatic teller machines. Most shops and automatic teller machines will indicate what type and brand of credit card they accept.

Travellers Cheques

You will find facilities for changing travellers cheques all over the city centre, at main stores, banks and other bureaus.

Banking hours are between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Thursday and to 5 pm on Friday. Most bank branches are not open weekends or public holidays, however some branches located in regional centres are open Saturday mornings as well as the times noted above.
